The Sindh government has declared a high alert in anticipation of heavy rainfall, taking proactive
measures to prevent urban flooding. Chief Secretary Syed Asif Haider Shah has instructed all
relevant authorities to ensure effective drainage in major thoroughfares and low-lying areas.
The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, along with other agencies, has been directed to stay
prepared for any emergencies.
Simultaneously, the Sindh Building Control Authority has established a Rain Emergency Centre under
the supervision of Director Demolition Abdul Sajjad Khan. Technical staff at the center will work
around the clock in three shifts to manage any emergent situations. Leaves for staff have been
cancelled to ensure adequate staffing during the alert.
In addition, a campaign has been launched to evacuate residents from 515 dilapidated and dangerous
buildings to ensure their safety. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation has deployed suction
machines and dewatering pumps to areas prone to flooding, including important locations such as major
roads, hospitals, and landmarks across the city. These proactive measures aim to minimize the impact
of heavy rainfall and safeguard both residents and infrastructure.
